Astrology Summary for August 2021

(some sections have been copied and pasted, others written by me)

LEO is the ultimate creator, leader, teacher, and lover… it carries the heart of a star (Sirius).

We start off with 4 planets in retrograde, which indicates lots of internal work (Pluto representing transformation, Saturn representing boundaries, Jupiter representing abundance & Neptune representing illusions)

With Pluto in retrograde specifically, the most growth can occur when you take stock of how far you’ve come. Pluto wants change and symbolizes our desire for newness. With Pluto in Capricorn, metamorphosis is upon us, but since Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, aka the slowest moving personal planet, shifts are occurring, but won’t become prominent until October 6, when Pluto turns direct.

Lion’s Gate Portal 8-8

Sirius will finally emerge from behind the Sun and start to be visible above the eastern horizon just before sunrise, from which its high-level cosmic energies can more directly reach Earth. These higher frequencies are said to offer illumination and insight, and to activate new levels of transformation for the collective, as well as for each of us individually.

This is called the heliacal rising of Sirius, which occurs it happens on Aug 11 this year, but we look to the 8th as the traditional day of celebration. Each year, the reemergence of Sirius is appropriately linked to the Sun's transit through the sign of Leo the Lion, the zodiac sign that rules our physical heart. Our Solar Sun is considered our physical sun while Sirius is represents our Spiritual Sun, or Second Ray. The Second Ray works with the heart chakra and thymus gland (high heart chakra) and carries with it the qualities of love and wisdom, rebirth, abundance, spiritual advancement, and a shift into a higher state of consciousness. While our Sun is responsible for beaming down life for our physical bodies, especially when it’s in its ruling sign of Leo, Sirius is responsible for beaming down life for our spiritual bodies.

You can think of this Sirius energy as a key, helping to unlock greater awareness, our destiny, new layers of our soul contract, and light codes that we came to this Earth to explore and work with.

In numerology, the number 8 represents power and strength, and the ambition and ability to achieve one’s life's goals. The number 8 card of the major arcana of the tarot is Strength, which symbolizes emotional wisdom and control. Appropriately enough, the image on the traditional Strength card shows a woman stroking a lion (Leo).

The number 8 can also be viewed as the infinity symbol on its side; this fact is often woven into the meaning of the number, infusing it with the mystical qualities of unlimited potential and infinite wisdom. It is believed on this day we can integrate the high-frequency energies of Sirius straight into our being. On top of all this, the number 88, being a double 8, is considered a master number. It signifies a healthy balance between the physical and the spiritual, success on all levels, and the ability to look inward for answers & spiritual intelligence. In Chinese culture, the number 88 symbolizes fortune and good luck. As an "angel number," 88 is said to represent spiritual blessings from an abundant universe.

The significance of 8/8 blends astrology with numerology. Sirius in astrology is associated with wealth, passion, honor, and even fame, while the Sun exudes confidence, willpower, and self-expression. That said, the fact that Sirius will align with the sun in the sign of Leo near this date is important. "Leo is a raging fire sign, and its energy can attract all it desires like a moth to a flame," Brown says. These success-attracting celestial bodies combined with the abundant numerological energy of 8/8 work together create the cosmic blend that makes the Lion’s Gate portal such a powerful period for putting our intentions out into the universe. 2021 is extra-special as it happens to coincide with the Leo New Moon. Having a New Moon can amplify the energy of the portal, turbo-charging its effects and our ability to manifest. Consciously connecting with one’s Higher Self allows us to reach a new place of freedom and power. Here’s an idea: instead of wanting or grasping for things, or telling the Universe your wish list, be open and accepting of whatever flows your way, and in a state of complete trust that all is unfolding for your highest good.

Most compelling about this New Moon is that it activates the Saturn-Uranus square. Uranus, the planet of awakenings & change, wants to shake things up. (This planet is “awake” while 4 others sleep… until 8/19 when it goes retrograde.)

With Uranus, we may receive some information that changes what we once knew, or we could find ourselves feeling scattered or uncertain about something that we once felt very certain about. It’s all about shaking and waking but for the highest good. One way to approach such shake-ups is to ask, “Where can I view any uncertainty as an open field of possibilities?”

This Leo New Moon is not about playing small or retreating back to what is comfortable. It is about bravely standing in our true, authentic power. It is about owning all of who we are, being proud of where we have come from, and confident in our journey of what lies ahead. Leo energy is very heart-centered and heart-driven. So it’s best to stay out of ego and work with this beautiful energy from that place.

This New Moon – as well as the entire four-week lunar cycle that begins on 8/8 – marks a pivotal time in the ongoing conflict between old systems and new paradigms, between the past and the future, between a limiting, fear-based view of reality and a more expanded, heart-centered perspective. Considering how the Saturn-Uranus square has already manifested this year, it also is likely to be a time when there are renewed restrictions (Saturn) on individual freedoms (Uranus) and chaotic circumstances (Uranus) that interfere with "business as usual" (Saturn). In the New Moon chart, the Sun/Moon, Saturn, and Uranus form a fixed T-square, with Uranus at the apex (the base of the stem). A T-square is an unstable configuration, something like having only three legs on a four-legged table. It represents considerable tension that is looking for a release point. Astrologer Bil Tierney, in his book Dynamics of Aspect Analysis, explains that a fixed T-square such as this usually involves "many intensive lessons in areas that test our expression of fixed desire, willful emotion, and attachment to what we personally value. Acceptance of and respect for other people's values and possession may be a prominent karmic theme." The apex planet in a T-square is especially significant, as it describes how the tension of the configuration seeks release. According to Mr. Tierney, with Uranus at the apex of a fixed T-square, people will "demand to have the privilege to constantly express freedom in the way they desire." The conflicts that are unleashed through this T-square require that "we adapt to new, unprecedented experiences that literally force us to alter our value structure." To help us work with the stressors that are likely to arise with this New Moon T-square, astrological wisdom tells us to seek out the higher qualities of the fourth leg of the table – the one fixed sign that is not anchored by a planet. In this particular T-square, the missing "leg" is the sign Scorpio. The traits of Scorpio that will best serve us as we move through this next lunar cycle are those related to its higher-vibrational animal symbol, the Eagle. Those qualities include keen vision, penetrating insight, fearlessness, and an ability to rise above the terrain, observing both the light and the dark from a higher-level perspective. Eagle's capacity for a detached overview will be especially important as we get closer to August 27, the day of the exact Pluto-Eris square. Also, let’s remember that for Americans, the Eagle represents freedom, which harkens back to the significance of Uranus as the apex planet.
